Elastic cartilage
Elastic cartilage is found where both support and great flexibility are required. Shown in this image, elastic cartilage forms the flexible framework in the pinna of the external ear that readily bends but rebounds to its original state. Elastic cartilage also forms the framework for the epiglottis and several of the smaller laryngeal cartilages. Elastic cartilage, like hyaline cartilage, has a surrounding perichondrium. 10x
