Eccrine sweat gland
The secretory portion of the gland is composed of three cell types, two of which are secretory: clear cells, which contain abundant glycogen, and dark cells, which contain secretory granules. Both secretory cell types lie on the basement membrane. 1000x

- Myoepithelial cells >
The third cell type is the contractile myoepithelial cell, whose long extensions wrap around the tubule. These epithelial cells possess contractile filaments and are located at the periphery of the tubule within the basement membrane. Their contractions assist in expulsion of the gland contents. Myoepithelial cells are also present in mammary glands, which are modified sweat glands.
