Bronchus
The bronchial mucosa consists of a pseudostratified columnar epithelium with cilia and goblet cells, a lamina propria rich in elastic fibers and a circularly-arranged layer of smooth muscle. As bronchi reduce in size, the epithelium becomes shorter, mixed glands are reduced and cartilage plates become smaller. Cartilage plates do not persist into bronchioles. 100x

Bronchial vessels >
Numerous, small bronchial vessels (filled with red blood cells) are present in the wall of the passageway. These vessels provide oxygenated blood nutritive support for the tissues, they are not involved with gas exchange with inspired air.
