Bronchus

The bronchial mucosa consists of a pseudostratified columnar epithelium with cilia and goblet cells, a lamina propria rich in elastic fibers and a circularly-arranged layer of smooth muscle. As bronchi reduce in size, the epithelium becomes shorter, mixed glands are reduced and cartilage plates become smaller. Cartilage plates do not persist into bronchioles. 100x
