Acidophils comprise about 70% of the hormone-secreting cells in the adenohypophyis: 50% somatotropes and 15-20% mammotropes.  The remaining 30% of hormone-secreting cells are basophils: 15-20% adenocorticotropes; 10% gonadotropes and 5% thyrotropes.
