Glycogen, the storage form of glucose, is abundant in liver and muscle cells.  At the light microscopic level, the periodic acid-Schiff (PAS) histochemical method stains the carbohydrate, glycogen, a magenta color.  Here, this stain shows accumulations of glycogen granules in the cytoplasm of liver cells (hepatocytes).  Liver  1000x
