Aggregated lymphoid nodules: tonsils
The pharyngeal tonsils are lined by respiratory epithelium, pseudostratified ciliated columnar. This epithelium is highly infiltrated with lymphocytes and other white blood cells, presenting a greatly altered appearance from the usual pharyngeal epithelium. Note the diffuse lymphoid tissue in the underlying lamina propria. 1000x
