Aggregated lymphoid nodules: tonsils

The palatine tonsil, located in lamina propria of the oropharynx, is composed of lymphoid nodules embedded in diffuse lymphoid tissue.  This section of tonsil is located beneath the epithelium of a pharyngeal crypt and is partially encapsulated by dense connective tissue, separating it from the underlying connective tissue.  Because tonsils are located in the lamina propria, they are part of MALT and filter tissue fluid.    100x
