Multipolar neuron

The cell bodies of multipolar neurons can also be found in autonomic ganglia throughout the body as part of the autonomic nervous system. This ganglion is a component of the parasympathetic division and contains multipolar, motor neurons. The ganglion is located in the wall of the digestive tract, between layers of smooth muscle which it innervates. Autonomic neurons generally have an eccentric nucleus and Nissl that forms a more delicate, lacy pattern compared with the more coarse arrangement seen in multipolar neurons in the central nervous system. The other nuclei in the ganglion are those of Schwann cells. 400x.
