Simple columnar epithelium
This epithelium consists of a single layer of cells that are taller than they are wide. Nuclei may be basally located but frequently are found in the center of cells. Nuclei usually assume the shape of the cells: oval in taller cells and more spherical if the column is shorter. Microvilli are present at the free surface of the cells and collectively appear as a dark, narrow band adjacent to the lumen. These microvilli form the brush border. Small intestine 1000x
