Adipocyte

Adipocytes are found individually or in small clusters in loose connective tissue. They can also form an entire tissue, called adipose connective tissue as seen here. The cells are surrounded by a stroma of loose connective tissue. Adipocytes contain a single large lipid droplet that compresses the nucleus and cytoplasm to the periphery of the cell. The lipid is extracted during tissue processing and, therefore, the cells appear empty. 400x
