Bone matrix: remodeling (spongy bone)

A region of developing spongy bone shows spicules composed of woven bone surrounded by mesenchymal connective tissue. Osteocytes within the spicules are randomly arranged and the matrix appears amorphous, not composed of lamellae. The matrix of these spicules will gradually be remodeled into regularly arranged, flattened lamellae with osteocytes orderly arranged between them. 400x
