Polychromatophilic erythroblast
The polychromatophilic erythroblast is smaller than the basophilic erythroblast. Its cytoplasm stains gray or lilac due to the blending of the pink (acidophilic)-staining hemoglobin with the purple (basophilic)-staining ribosomes. The nucleus is also smaller than that of the basophilic erythroblast. This is the last stage in the red blood lineage that undergoes mitosis. 1000x, 1000x
