Dermis

The narrow papillary layer of the dermis is highly vascular and contains finer caliber collagen fibers and more cells than the reticular layer.  Thicker collagen bundles predominate in the reticular layer.  The darkly-stained elastic fibers interlace with the collagen; together they provide the dermis with elasticity and strength, respectively.  1000x
