Ventricular fold > <p>The paired ventricular folds (false vocal folds) lie superior to the vocal folds.  The ventricular folds are normally covered by pseudostratified columnar epithelium overlying a connective tissue layer containing adipose tissue and mixed, mucoserous glands. A smooth muscle layer is lacking. </p>
