Bronchial blood vessels

Two arterial systems, bronchial and pulmonary, supply blood to lung tissue. This image show a bronchial artery and vein in the wall of large bronchus. Bronchial arteries supply oxygenated blood to the tissues forming the walls of respiratory passageways. They originate as branches of the descending thoracic aorta and travel within the wall of the passageways. Pulmonary arteries, carrying deoxygenated blood, travel adjacent to respiratory passageways and supply alveolar capillaries where gas exchange occurs. 250x
