This region of the seminiferous epithelium contains numerous spermatogonia. These cells are identified as spermatogonia based on their location next to the basement membrane. The primary spermatocytes resulting from the mitotic divisions of spermatogonia migrate into the adluminal compartment where they rapidly enter prophase of meiosis I. 1000x
