Ovary: corpus luteum

A section through the periphery of a corpus luteum shows both types of luteal cells. The larger granulosa lutein cells are frothy, steroid-producing cells that form the bulk of this structure and are located adjacent to the remnant of the antral space. Theca lutein cells are smaller, steroid-secreting cells present around the periphery and in the infoldings of the corpus luteum. 100x
