Serosa >
The outermost layer of the large intestine is either an adventitia or a serosa, depending on whether a particular segment of this organ is intra- or retroperitoneal in location. The segment in this section is intraperitoneal and thus shows a serosa with connective tissue layer (yellow arrows) and mesothelium consisting of simple squamous epithelium. This serosa is also called the visceral peritoneum.
