Oral mucosa: Lining

The epithelium of lining mucosa is stratified squamous moist; epithelial pegs (ridges) are short.  The lamina propria in the oral cavity, like the dermis of the skin, is subdivided into a papillary portion immediately beneath the epithelium and a reticular portion of denser connective tissue.  The submucosa, underlying the mucosa, contains minor salivary glands.  200x
