Lip: mucosal surface
The inner surface of the lip is lined by the mucosal epithelium, a thick, moist stratified squamous epithelium; a stratum granulosum is absent. Minor salivary glands (labial glands) are located in the submucosa beneath the lamina propria. The minor salivary glands produce both serous and mucous secretions. Mucosal epithelium also lines the cheeks, floor of the mouth and the ventral surface of the tongue. 10x, 100x
