Transitional artery
The transition from an elastic artery to a muscular one is gradual, so transitional arteries may show features of both arterial types. This section, stained with a trichrome stain, shows an artery in which the tunica media has characteristics of a medium, muscular artery (inner portion of smooth muscle) and a large, elastic artery (outer portion with elastic lamellae). 100x
