This ground tooth shows cementum, the outermost covering of the root. A thin layer of cementum begins at the cementoenamel junction and continues to the apex of the tooth, thickening as it does so. Cementum contains cementocytes, resembling osteocytes. The periodontal ligament (not present in this image) extends from cementum to adjacent alveolar bone. 10x, 200x
