Annulus fibrosus

An annulus fibrosus is a ring-shaped, local thickening of connecting tissue that encircles the base of each cardiac valve. The annulus is a component of the cardiac skeleton and is continuous with the connective tissue core of each valve leaflet, providing support for the valve as well anchorage for the insertion of cardiac muscle fibers. 100x
