Structure of compound glands

A  large interlobular duct is surrounded by dense interlobular connective tissue.  This duct forms by the coalescing of smaller intralobular ducts and will, in turn, drain into larger interlobular ducts to eventually form the main secretory duct of the gland.  This large interlobular duct is lined by a stratified columnar epithelium, which also includes scattered goblet cells.  Parotid gland 400x
