Pulmonary vein

This longitudinal section of a large pulmonary vein will join others to form two main pulmonary veins that exit the lung at the hilum, accompanied by a primary bronchus and a pulmonary artery. Blood in pulmonary veins returns to the left atrium of the heart, joining the general systemic circulation. A portion of the pleura has detached from the surface of the lung. 40x
