Lymphoid nodule aggregates: Peyer's patch

Lymphoid nodules also occur in aggregates, such as Peyer’s patches in the small intestine. A single Peyer’s patch contains clusters of nodules surrounded by diffuse lymphoid tissue. Because Peyer’s patches are located in the lamina propria of the mucosa, they are part of MALT and filter tissue fluid. Peyer’s patches are most numerous in the ileum, seen here. An area similar to that outlined in the rectangle is shown at higher magnification on the right. Ileum 40x (l); 100x (r)
