Dorsal roots >
The dorsal root contains the central processes of pseudounipolar neurons whose cell bodies are located in the dorsal root ganglion. These axons continue in the dorsal root into the spinal cord conveying sensory information.
- Dorsal root ganglia
The dorsal root contains the central processes of pseudounipolar neurons whose cell bodies are located in the dorsal root ganglion. These axons continue in the dorsal root into the spinal cord conveying sensory information.
Ventral roots >
The ventral root contains motor axons from multipolar neurons whose cell bodies are located in the ventral horn of the grey matter. Their axons pass in the spinal nerve to innervate muscle tissues in the periphery.
Spinal nerve >
The spinal nerve is formed by the fusion of the dorsal and ventral roots.
Central canal >
The central canal is continuous with the ventricular system in the brain and contains cerebrospinal fluid. The canal is lined by a simple cuboidal to columnar epithelium composed of ependymal cells.
