Gingival Fibers of the periodontal ligament

The gingival fibers of the periodontal ligament connect the alveolar bone and the cementum of the tooth to the gingiva and to each other at the cervix (neck) of the tooth. 100x

Circumferential fibers >
The circumferential fiber group encircles the neck of the tooth crown and thus are seen in cross section in this image. These fibers are a component of the transeptal fiber system, that extends over the alveolar bone crest and is embedded in the cementum of adjacent teeth. These fibers form an interdental ligament that maintains alignment and spacing of the teeth.
