Diplosomes and MTOC
In mitotic cells, diplosomes produce microtubules that form the spindle apparatus, which is responsible for segregating chromosomes into the daughter cells. Prior to mitosis, the diplosomes replicate and each pair migrates to opposite poles of the nucleus, establishing a MTOC (centrosome) at each pole. Microtubules extend from the centosome and contact the sister chromatids, while others serve to anchor the spindle apparatus.
