Pulmonary artery
The pulmonary artery carries deoxygenated blood to the alveolar capillaries in the interalveolar septa where gas exchange occurs. This terminal bronchiole, located near the root of the lung, is positioned between a large pulmonary artery cut in longitudinal section on the right and a smaller pulmonary artery that would supply the capillaries of alveoli continuing from the bronchiole. 200x

A large pulmonary artery (Y) cut in longitudinal section travels adjacent to the bronchiole. Capillaries associated with this bronchiole, however, are supplied by the smaller pulmonary artery cut in cross section (X)

This terminal bronchiole (from a non-human source) displays abundant club cells, a prominent smooth muscle layer and obvious bronchial vessels supplying the tissues of the bronchiole.

The presence of alveoli indicates that all the structures visible here are intrapulmonary.
