Lysosomes

Lysosomes contain hydrolytic enzymes and are the major degradative organelle in the cell.  They begin as pre-lysosomal vesicles from the Golgi that fuse with material internalized as endosomes or phagosomes, or with autophagosomes that contain intracellular components that are targeted for degradation.  Lysosomes are abundant in cells with high phagocytic activity such as macrophages and certain white blood cells.
